Theophanes, asekretis, 11th century. Seal (Lead, 31 mm, 34.21 g, 12 h). MHP - ΘV The Mother of God “Nikopoios”, nimbate, holding medallion of Christ with both hands; in upper fields, 'tongues of fire'; in lower fields, pellets. Rev. +ΘKЄ R, / TⲰ CⲰ Δ’ / ΘЄOΦAN’ / ACHKPH/T, in five lines, decorations flanking the last line. Unpublished in the standard references. Cf. J. Cotsonis in DOP 48, p. 221-227 for "Tongues of Fire" iconography. Some marks and scratches, otherwise, very fine.
